Xavier’s strength and conditioning program is a progressive training system designed to enhance the athletic performance and overall fitness of our students. With a strong emphasis on speed training, plyometrics, and progressive training, our program aims to develop well-rounded athletes who excel in their respective sports.
We understand that long-term athletic development requires a gradual, systematic approach and recognize that different age groups have varying levels of physical development, so we gradually introduce more advanced techniques and exercises as the students mature. Therefore, as students progress from freshman to senior year, the training intensity, volume, and complexity increase accordingly. This ensures that athletes continually challenge themselves and make steady improvements in their strength, speed, and overall fitness.
Speed and plyometric training play a significant role in our program as well. We understand the importance that speed and plyometrics play in various sports, and our training protocols are designed to improve acceleration, agility, overall running mechanics, power, reactive strength and overall athletic performance.
We accommodate the demanding schedules of our student-athletes by offering flexible training options. In-season teams have the opportunity to lift weights after school, providing them with the necessary strength maintenance and injury prevention during their competitive seasons. Meanwhile, teams that are out of season can take advantage of designated free periods during the day to complete their strength and conditioning sessions.
During the summer, we offer a strength and conditioning camp where students from rising eighth graders to rising seniors come in for 75 minute sessions working on speed, plyometrics, and strength through a six-week progressive program which will lead into the fall sports season.
Our dedicated strength and conditioning coaches oversee the program, providing guidance, expertise, and support to the students. They carefully monitor each individual’s progress––offering personalized attention and modifications when necessary. Additionally, our coaches emphasize proper technique and safety to ensure that students perform exercises correctly and reduce the risk of injury.
