Higher Achievement Program

The Jesuit Higher Achievement Program (HAP) at Xavier is a tuition-free, five-week summer program for rising eighth grade boys. 

Throughout the summer, HAP students complete a rigorous course of study designed to expose them to the high school college preparatory experience. Each day, students engage in classes focused on core subjects, ensuring that HAP graduates return to eighth grade more confident in their academic abilities and serious about their future in high school and beyond. Students also take one cycle of classes focused on Science, Technology, and Art (STArt), in addition to one of over a dozen Option Classes, which vary each year based on the unique interests of Xavier’s dedicated and innovative faculty. In line with Xavier’s practice of using its city as a classroom, HAP students take advantage of New York City’s rich history and famed cultural institutions, embarking on two field trips. These sites include the Museum of Natural History, Yankee Stadium, the 9/11 Museum, and the Central Park Zoo, among others.

Application Details

How to Apply:

  1. Complete the online HAP application.
  2. Compose a 150-word essay explaining what gifts and talents you would bring to HAP (part of online application).
  3. Submit a copy of the applicant’s most recent report card as of the application deadline (part of online application).
  4. Submit two recommendations. One recommendation must be completed by a current seventh grade teacher. Teachers should submit their recommendations directly through our online recommendation form. Please be sure to inform teachers that you will be requesting a HAP recommendation on your son's behalf. 
  5. We will be in touch with steps for submitting your son's medical forms and immunization records prior to the start of the program. Valid physician medical forms can be dated no earlier than August 1, 2026.

HAP Timeline

Applications to HAP are reviewed on a rolling basis three times throughout the school year. Providing we have received all application materials, including recommendations, you will be notified about your son's HAP admissions decison on the date corresponding to the deadline to which he applied. Please only submit one application per school year.
