Affording Xavier

Xavier maintains its historic commitment to educating intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means.

Xavier's Board of Trustees has set tuition for the 2026-27 academic year at $27,915. The only additional fee we charge is a non-refundable $350 registration fee. Xavier partners with the online service FACTS to analyze and make initial recommendations for all tuition assistance applicants. All recommendations are then reviewed by our Financial Aid Committee before we finalize decisions.

Keeping a Jesuit education on 16th Street accessible and affordable for the next generation remains one of our most enduring priorities; therefore, we offer generous need-based tuition assistance in addition to merit-based academic scholarships, and we try to meet the expressed need of every family. Single-Parent Household With One Child and an Income of $96,000

We have a single-parent household with one child. The parent's income is approximately $96,000. The parent has a monthly rental expense of $2,900 and a small amount in savings and retirement. This family receives a financial aid grant of $17,500 and is expected to contribute $1,042 per month on a 10-month tuition payment schedule.

Single-Parent Household With Two Children and an Income of Less Than $50,000

We have a single-parent family with two children. The parent's income is less than $50,000. In addition to the child who is applying, the parent has another child, but that child is not in a tuition-charging school. The parent does not own their house, pays $1,800 in monthly rent, and has limited discretionary income. This family receives a financial aid grant of $23,500 and is expected to contribute $442 per month on a 10-month tuition payment schedule.

Two Working Parents With a Total Income of Approximately $175,000

We have a two-parent family where both parents work. Their total income is approximately $175,000. They have two children, and only the child who is applying will be in a tuition-charging school. They own their house with a mortgage of $3,100 per month and total assets (including equity in the house) of $200,000. This family receives a financial aid grant of $12,500 and is expected to contribute $1,542 per month on a 10-month tuition payment schedule.

We have a family where both parents work and the combined income from both parents is approximately $290,000. They have three children in tuition-charging schools and combined assets of $700,000 (home equity and retirement). This family receives a financial aid grant of $8,000 and is expected to contribute $1,992 per month on a 10-month tuition payment schedule.

About Merit Scholarships

Xavier awards merit-based scholarships to approximately 20% of each incoming freshman applicant pool. Merit scholarships, granted over four years, are typically awarded at 20%, 40%, 60%, and 90% of the cost of freshman year tuition. Merit scholarships are fixed at a set dollar amount and do not increase in any successive year. 

Candidates for merit scholarships and the Ignatian Scholars Program:

  • Submit a thoughtful admissions application
  • Earn straight As in middle school
  • Score in the top 20% of applicants who take the HSPT
  • Provide impressive teacher recommendations

Merit scholarships are only awarded to incoming freshmen who apply by the admissions deadline. They are awarded independent of financial need. However, if the family of an admitted applicant has demonstrated need that exceeds the value of the merit scholarship and has completed the FACTS financial aid application by the deadline, then he may qualify for additional need-based aid. Applicants who wish to be considered for a merit-based scholarship must meet all admissions requirements, including taking the HSPT (whether at Xavier, Regis, Fordham Prep, Loyola School, or through the Archdiocese of Newark). A registered student who receives and accepts an academic scholarship will automatically be placed into our Ignatian Scholars Program. Students must maintain an 85 cumulative average to maintain their scholarship.

Payment Plans

All families must pay through FACTS. Tuition payments can be made in one, two, four, or 10 installments directly from a bank account, by credit card, or via invoice. FACTS payment plans begin in July, prior to the academic year. Please click here for details about how to register for FACTS.
