Beefsteak Draws Alumni Home to Xavier

On January 13, hundreds of Xavier’s Sons flooded back to 16th Street for the second week in a row—this time, for Xavier’s annual Beefsteak Dinner.

Six days after 650 alumni and friends celebrated the 80th birthday of James Keenan, S.J. at Xavier, 855 alumni came home to attend the much-loved Beefsteak. The night featured unlimited beef and spirits and a healthy dose of revelry as Sons of Xavier reunited with friends and made new ones.

“Beefsteak was always my favorite night of the year before I came to work at Xavier, and it’s even more so now,” said Director of Alumni Relations Zane Massey ’96. “Xavier’s loyal alumni base sets us apart from other schools, and that’s on full display on a night like Beefsteak.”

The festivities began in Fernandez-Duminuco Hall, where many alumni took advantage of optional tours of the new 33,000-square-foot space. Mass followed in Xavier’s Student Chapel, where Jack Replogle, S.J. ’51 presided. After Mass, alumni representing nearly every Xavier class from 1957 to 2013 filled Larkin/Hurtado Hall and the gym, enjoying great steak and conversation. School pride reached its apex when beloved former Dean of Students Frank Gregory P'80 '86 '87 led alumni in a rousing rendition of “Sons of Xavier.”
