Three hundred and fifty Sons and friends of Xavier gathered at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers on October 28 as 11 deserving men were inducted into the Xavier Hall of Fame.
Honorees Rev. Jack Replogle, S.J. '51, LTC Desmond Flanigan, USA (Ret.) '56, Michael La Quaglia, M.D. '68, Robert Robotti '71, Mike Fernandez '72, Frank Comerford '73, Augustus Vincent Tack 1890†, Rev. George McMahon, S.J. '40†, Hon. Francis Ruddy '55†, Gerald FitzGerald '58†, and MSG James Jones, USA (Ret.)† were lauded for their exemplary achievements during the dinner. Master of Ceremonies Kevin McLaughlin '74 guided a lively event, while special guest Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also took a few minutes to speak to the crowd.
Proceeds from the Hall of Fame Dinner benefited the Ignatian Scholars Program, a rigorous course of honors study at Xavier. Student speaker and Ignatian Scholar Will Shelton ’19 spoke eloquently about Xavier's effect on his life.
“Xavier has helped me grow in ways I couldn’t possibly imagine. I’m able to focus on my love of music and discover other passions, like acting, the Regiment, and the rifle team, and push the limits of my full academic potential every day," said Shelton, a resident of Union City, New Jersey. "My reality and the experience of numerous other Xavier students would not be possible without the efforts and the contributions of everyone here tonight."
