Students Travel on Holy Week CFX Trip
Eighteen seniors and four chaperones traveled to the Dominican Republic during Holy Week for a cultural immersion and service trip run through the Institute of Latin American Concern. Below, chaperone and Xavier teacher Michael Mulé ’04 reflects on his experience:
The time spent staying with the families in the countryside and helping the locals renovate their church mixed the best of our service trips with an immersion experience that taught everyone—students and teachers alike—about how we all have something to share. The Xavier crew shared its energy, muscle, and curiosity, and the host families shared their homes and their patience. The sense of kinship that developed was extraordinary, and, to pull on Greg Boyle, our students grew their circles of compassion so that fewer people stand outside it today than may have stood outside it just three weeks ago.
