Xavier Marches in the St. Patrick's Day Parade

Celebrating a Xavier tradition that dates back more than a century, members of the Xavier Regiment marched up Fifth Avenue during the 255th New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17.

Led by Cadet Colonel Justin DeoPaul ’16, the Regiment marched with both American and Irish flags. The Irish tricolor they carried was brought back to the U.S. by a delegation of Xavier students who visited Ireland earlier this month to celebrate the centenary of the Easter Rising, a seminal event in the fight for Irish freedom.

Cadets were joined by Xavier President Jack Raslowsky, Headmaster Michael LiVigni, Irish-American Club moderator Jerry McKinney, and members of the Blue Night Band as they took part in the storied parade.

“It must be emphasized that the Regiment marched superbly and that the Parade was a wonderful event for Xavier High School,” said Lt. Col. Roy Campbell, USA (Ret.), Xavier’s Senior Army Instructor. “The skies were bright, the rain stayed away, and Irish 'eyes were smiling' on all of us.”
