Xavier Welcomes 746 Families at Open House

More than 2,000 guests descended on 16th Street on Saturday, October 17, as Xavier hosted its annual Open House. Representing all five boroughs, Westchester, Long Island, and New Jersey, 746 prospective students received personal tours from Xavier student leaders, met teachers, coaches, and current parents, and learned about myriad academic, athletic, artistic, and service opportunities.

The number of prospective students in attendance represented a 20% increase over last year's total. It was the highest number of attendees since 2008 and the third-highest total ever. Associate Director of Admissions Alex Bushery attributed the number of guests to the hard work of the admissions team, the members of which have attended more than 70 recruitment events—including high school fairs and individual school visits—in September and October alone.

As visiting families toured Xavier’s winding halls, stopping at the newly-renovated Student Chapel and state-of-the-art science and technology labs along the way, Ms. Bushery deemed the event a success.

"Our main goal is always to get the prospective students through the doors of Xavier so they can see the amazing programs we have to offer,” she said. “We want them to walk the halls and imagine themselves here for the next four years. There is nothing better than shaking the hand of a potential Son of Xavier and watching his eyes light up at the idea of a bright future.”
