Xavier Travels to London
Timed to coincide with the Rugby World Cup, Xavier’s recent journey to England proved to be much more than an athletic event. From visits to Jesuit schools to Xavier’s first-ever London reception, President Jack Raslowsky and Athletic Director Tony Paolozzi united old friends and new in support of our mission.
“It was a terrific trip—and great to see the Xavier mission travel so well,” Mr. Raslowsky said. “It was also a delight to visit with alumni we have never met before."
Individual alumni visits were complemented by the festive London reception, held at The Castle in London’s Islington neighborhood. More than 20 Sons and friends of Xavier attended. Many thanks to Ed O’Callaghan ’87 P’17 and Clifford Chance, official law firm of the Rugby World Cup 2015, for hosting the event.
Mr. Raslowsky and Mr. Paolozzi also visited London’s Wimbledon College and St. Ignatius College, two of Great Britain’s 11 Jesuit schools, during their trip overseas. They were not the first Sons of Xavier to visit St. Ignatius—Bob Scavullo ’60 toured the campus several years ago.
Mr. Raslowsky and Mr. Paolozzi also made time for rugby, of course, attending the USA’s pool matches against South Africa and Japan in support of Mike Petri ’02, Seamus Kelly ’09, and Eagles head coach Mike Tolkin ’85. “We were thrilled to support the USA Eagles rugby team members, who represented the nation with class and dignity,” Mr. Raslowsky said.
