Xavier Hall of Fame
Fr. Vincent Cooke, S.J. ’54 was called home to the Lord on June 22, 2017. Fr. Cooke served as president of Canisius College for 19 years and as provincial of the New York Province. He was a professor of philosophy at Fordham University, president of John Carroll, and a member of the Xavier Hall of Fame.
On the occasion of Fr. Cooke’s passing, Xavier President Jack Raslowsky noted: “As I came to know Vin through the years, I saw a man who brought Xavier to life by making our mission statement real. He took responsibility for his life, led with integrity, acted justly in service of others, pursued excellence in every endeavor and constantly deepened his relationship with God.”
After the wake for Fr. Cooke, Raslowsky continued: “At the wake, there were many Fr. Cooke stories. They were all characterized by respect, admiration and affection. Vin joins scores of Xavier’s sons as he now lives with the Lord. May they all pray for us and the success of our work.”
