267 Sons of Xavier Give During Turkey Bowl Challenge
Xavier thanks the 267 Sons of Xavier from the Classes of 2002 through 2016 who supported our mission and programs with a gift during the month-long Turkey Bowl Giving Challenge with Fordham Prep. The challenge pitted the Knights against their rivals from Fordham Prep in an off-field competition to mirror our annual on-field matchup. The two schools competed from October 26 through November 23 to see whose young alumni would support their alma mater in greater numbers leading up to the annual Turkey Bowl.
Though the Sons of Xavier fought valiantly and held the lead from the second week of the challenge through the Monday before Thanksgiving, they were unable to overcome a last-minute surge by the Rams who ultimately won the challenge with 307 donors, 138 of whom came in the final 48 hours of the competition. The Rams also won the on-field matchup, 21-18, for the first time since 2011. (Photos are available here.)
While we wish the result were different, we are extremely grateful to all of the Sons of Xavier who answered the call during this inaugural challenge. Gifts to the challenge totaled $13,315, including gifts from 67 first-time donors and 112 donors who have not made gifts in at least a year. Forty members of the Class of 2016, our youngest alumni, were generous contributors to the effort and our top-participating class overall. We thank you all for your generous support of Xavier’s mission, programs, and most importantly our students. We look forward to evening the score next year and taking the Turkey trophy back home to 16th Street!
