Sports Update: Tre Solomon ’14 Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week
By Billy Malewich ’12
It wasn’t long ago when Tre Solomon ’14 was setting rushing records for the Xavier Knights football offense back here in New York City, but Solomon has gone on to impress in the Ivy League at the University of Pennsylvania. He was recently named Offensive Player of the week for the Ivy League after his effort against Columbia on October 15. He was able to accumulate 157 all-purpose yards, including 127 on the ground from 19 carries, as well as 30 yards receiving. Solomon finds himself in a familiar situation at Penn at he did at Xavier, being a “Mr. Do-It-All” for the offense, as he was able to rush for the first touchdown of the game, as well as throw for the final score to give the Quakers the 35-10 victory.
Solomon has found his stride in his junior season with the Quakers, setting personal bests in rushing yards (498) and leading the Ivy League in yards, rushing attempts (89), and yards per game (99.6). In his junior year at Xavier, he also found his game, rushing for more than 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns leading the Knights to a CHSFL “AA” division title in the midst of adversity. The team was dealing with the fallout of the destruction of Hurricane Sandy and the impact it had on not just the football team, but New York City and the Xavier community as a whole.
Solomon and the rest of the Quakers football team can be seen this coming Friday, October 21, at 7 p.m. on the NBC Sports Network as they take on Ivy League opponent Yale at the Yale Bowl. For more information about all things Quakers football, visit the Penn football website.
