Joseph O'Neill '41 Represents 75th Reunion Class
Seventy-five years after his own graduation, Joseph O’Neill ’41 is still grateful for his Xavier education.
The Manhattan native followed his older brother, John O’Neill ’39†, to 16th Street in 1937. Scholarships financed their Xavier education. “Xavier changed my life,” he said. “I’ve been contributing to the Annual Fund for 30 years because I want to see that others can benefit like I did.”
After graduating from Xavier, O’Neill served his country in World War II, fighting in the European theater. He later attended Fordham University, ultimately becoming Director of Computer Systems and Services for American Brands. He remains active in his retirement and participates in community theater near his home in Malverne, Long Island. “I always say, I don’t know what I do, but I’m busy all the time!” he joked.
O’Neill was proud to join members of the Class of 2016 during their graduation at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where he joined the procession. Xavier extends its thanks to him and to the many members of his family who joined us for the special event.
