Sophomore Serves as President for a Day
After attending the Celebrate Xavier Scholarship Gala at Gotham Hall on April 8, Beth Windsor P’18 came home with a surprise for her son, Adrian Durkin ’18.
Windsor purchased the President for a Day package at the event, entitling the student recipient to assume the role of Xavier’s President, Jack Raslowsky, for one day. “My mom just randomly surprised me with this,” Durkin said, “and I learned a lot.”
On May 16, Durkin was excused from his classes, instead filling his time with important meetings. In addition to speaking with Raslowsky about his duties and learning about the history of Xavier and its Presidents, Durkin met with members of the advancement and finance teams, toured Fernandez-Duminuco Hall, and enjoyed lunch at the Hollywood Diner with Raslowsky and Director of Development Mark Mongelluzzo.
“I learned that there’s a much deeper financial component to the school,” Durkin said. “I had no idea how much was involved in running Xavier.”
