Xavier Rugby Tours The Emerald Isle
By Nick Byrne '11
On Wednesday, March 23, 42 Xavier ruggers traveled from 16th Street to the Emerald Isle for their annual rugby tour.
The team is coming off a three-day trip to Cleveland, Ohio, where they challenged Penn Rugby and Saint Ignatius High School.
The Knights' Irish escapade begins March 24 in Cork, where they will hone in on their skills, attend a Pro 12 match, take in the sights, contest Presentation Brothers College, and celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at St. Mary’s Church.
From Cork, the team will travel up the west coast to Galway, visit the Cliffs of Moher, train for and compete against their second opponent, Ballinrobe R.F.C., before transferring to Dublin.
In Dublin, the lot will be immersed in Irish culture, tour Trinity College, Lansdowne Aviva Stadium, and explore the capital before their third and final match against Blackrock College.
Ten days, three matches, and 3,095 miles stand between the varsity rugby team and 16th Street.
