An Update on Fernandez-Duminuco Hall

If you stroll down 15th Street and look up, you will notice that the scaffolds have been removed and Xavier’s new six-story facility within 35XV, the high-rise condominium adjacent to campus, is near completion.

Months from now, Fernandez-Duminuco Hall will be alive with student activity, from computer coding and filmmaking in high-tech classrooms and labs to music production in a state-of-the-art recording studio.

The 33,000-sq. ft. space will support Xavier’s current programs while creating opportunities for new initiatives and improvements to existing facilities. The new building is being funded by the school’s partial sale of its air rights and generous contributions that include a major gift from Mike Fernandez ’72 in honor of his mentor, former Xavier Headmaster Rev. Vincent Duminuco, S.J.

James Cappabianca ’05, Special Assistant to the President and Executive Vice President, shed light on the current status of Fernandez-Duminuco hall as it nears completion.

“We are making great progress with the interior design of the space. Walls are up, and the building is taking shape. We’re excited about modernizing our campus and making it worthy of our students,” Cappabianca said. “We’re really not trying to grow our campus size. We just want to have more space and better facilities to match the kind of work that is happening here. Our existing facilities are great, but this puts us in a great spot in Manhattan, in a great spot in the competitive nature of the admissions process for eighth graders, and I think it puts us in a good spot for alumni connecting back to us in a very real way. “
