Sports Column: Basketball Season is Upon Us

Basketball season is upon us, and the varsity Knights are 2-0 going into tonight’s game against La Salle Academy.

In their CHSAA season opener, the Knights defeated the Nazareth Kingsmen, 52-40. Coach Joe McGrane’s team was down 10 points at half, but turned things around after the break—limiting turnovers, running the court, and outscoring the Kingsmen 38-16 in the second half.

In an overtime thriller on Tuesday, Xavier pulled out a 53-52 win against Monsignor McClancy to remain undefeated. Christian Raslowsky ‘16 kept the game close in in the second half, shooting well from beyond the arc, as Malik Fisher ‘17 held things down in the paint, eventually winning the game for the Knights with a tip-in as time expired.
