Championship Saturday at Xavier

By Nick Byrne '11

Xavier Advances to CHSFL Title Game

Last Saturday, the Xavier Knights (9-1) defeated St. John the Baptist, 14-0, in the semifinals of the CHSFL AA playoffs, earning their way to the championship game against the Christ the King Royals (10-0).

The Royals defeated the Knights, 21-15, in Week 6 on a controversial offensive pass interference no-call as time expired. The Knights look to avenge their only loss of the season and claim their second AA playoff title in four seasons.

Join the Xavier community at Mitchel Field on Saturday, November 21, to cheer on the Knights as they look to soil Christ the King’s undefeated season. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. in Uniondale, Long Island. Advance tickets may be purchased in the Athletic Office for $7 or at the gate for $10. A ticket is required for admission.

For those of you who can’t be at Mitchel Field on Saturday afternoon, the game will be broadcast live on MSG Varsity. This channel is only available to Optimum/Cablevision subscribers (channel 614). If your cable provider does not carry MSG Varsity, visit this link on game day.

Cross Country Heads to NY Federation Championships

The cross country team will also be competing for a championship this Saturday.

At last week’s CHSAA Championships, all seven varsity runners finished in the top 28, with all five scorers in the top 19. Christian Raslowsky ‘16 and Giancarlo Cipri ’17 finished in third and seventh place, respectively, and received All League A team honors.

The varsity’s second-place finish helped the team qualify for the New York Federation Cross Country championships. The Knights will participate for the eighth time in school history (1999, 2000, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and fifth year in a row.

Coach Pat Dormer P’17 will lead the Varsity Seven (Raslowsky, Cipri, Josef Oettl ’18, Dominick Ronan ’17, Sawyer Gwyn-Rowsom ’18, Ben Karam ’16, and Michael Crorkin ’18) to Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls to improve upon last year’s fourth place finish.
