Sports Column: Catching Up with Tre Solomon '14
By Nick Byrne '11
Over the weekend, the University of Pennsylvania Quakers routed the Brown University Bears, 48-28. Sophomore running back Tre Solomon ’14, the most decorated running back in Xavier football history, led the Quakers (4-3, 3-1 Ivy) to victory with three total touchdowns—his third consecutive multi-touchdown game.
In game four of the 2014 season, Solomon suffered a season-ending knee injury, closing the door on what promised to be a successful year for the true freshman.
Following his injury against the Fordham University Rams, Solomon dubbed his road to recovery “the comeback.”
Solomon has certainly come back.
The sophomore from Brooklyn leads the Quakers in scoring with seven total touchdowns, boasting 469 all-purpose yards in seven games—including a gritty performance in a week three win against top-ranked Villanova, the program’s first victory over its crosstown rivals since 1911.
“After winning, you feel a lot of weight come off your shoulders,” Solomon said in an interview with The Daily Pennsylvanian. “Last year, we hadn’t won more than one game at this point in the season. So we are a lot more excited about the games, and it’s more fun to be at practice or on the sidelines."
Tre Solomon and the Quakers look to continue their three-game winning streak against archrival Princeton (5-2, 2-2 Ivy) this weekend. Saturday’s game is more than just Homecoming for Penn—it is an opportunity to establish dominance.
