Sports Column: Chiarovano Named CHSFL Player of the Week
By Nick Byrne '11
Since adopting the single-wing in 2006, head football coach Chris Stevens ’83 has bred several talented running backs, including Seamus Kelly ’09 and Tre Solomon ’14, elite athletes who ran all over CHSFL defenders in their day. In a very physical game against Kellenberg Memorial, where Xavier ran 70 plays and rushed for 465 yards, senior captain Michael Chiarovano '16 was a workhorse, carrying the ball 34 times for 291 yards and 5 TDs. With his recent achievement, he has moved into a territory where he can be mentioned in the same sentence with great Xavier single-wing backs like Solomon and Kelly. Chiarovano’s performance against Kellenberg also earned him the title of CHSFL Player of the Week.
Chiarovano and the Knights take on Holy Trinity at Aviator Field this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
