Sports Column: Soccer Headed for a Strong Finish
By Nick Byrne '11
With numerous loops and turns during the Knights’ roller coaster season come different story lines captured by stretches of inspiring and uninspiring play.
Following last year’s painful playoff exit, the Knights entered the 2015 season loaded with talent all over the pitch, and were expected to be a force in the CHSAA.
Surprisingly, the team went 0-4-1 in their first five matches. But the gravity of a slow start, even in the early weeks, cannot be overstated. The Knights are 5-1-3 since September 24 and have fought tooth and nail to reclaim their dominance.
The final match of the regular season is upon us, as the Xavier Knights (5-5-4) travel to Staten Island this afternoon to take on Monsignor Farrell at 4:30 p.m. Best of luck to the team.
