Students Honored at Fall Assembly
The Xavier community gathered to celebrate student academic, athletic, and co-curricular achievements at the Fall Honors Assembly on October 7.
Dean of Academics Luciano Lovallo emceed the event, which began with a prayer led by Director of Campus Ministry Kaija DeWitt and a speech given by Headmaster Michael LiVigni, Afterward, various college book awards and national academic honors were presented, and all students who received first and second honors last spring were recognized.
Student leadership was also celebrated. Justin Westbrook-Lowery ’16, President of the Student Leadership Council (SLC), recognized his officers and shared their common goals for the coming year. Shortly before Cadet Colonel Justin DeoPaul ’16 commissioned JROTC officers, Lt. Col. Roy Campbell, USA (Ret.), Xavier’s Senior Army Instructor, imbued the ceremony with history.
“For 126 years, many thousands of Cadet Officers have served here at Xavier before you,” Lt. Col. Campbell said. “Today, each of you becomes a strong link in this historical chain that spans three different centuries of Xavier history.”
Fittingly, the ceremony ended with yet more tradition—a hearty rendition of Sons of Xavier led by Robert Reinhart ’69 P’94 ’99.
