Sports Column: Sons of Xavier, Keep Marching, On to Victory
Varsity football remains undefeated
By Nick Byrne '11
Let’s hear it for the Xavier Knights. Or as some might call them, the team formerly known as the Kaydets…and then the Bruins...
The Knights are 3-0 for the first time since 2008, and that start has come against a tough schedule. Xavier’s 19-7 win over St. John the Baptist looks better every week.
A big reason for the Knights’ success? Coach
Kevin Kelly’s defense leads the league in points allowed, giving up 19 points in three games.
Whether Xavier’s 3-0 start this season should be considered “surprising” is up for debate. The Knights might turn out to be the division’s best team: A talented group of running backs and an experienced offensive line lead a potent offense, while the defense continues to show its moxie.
This Sunday, the Knights travel to Uniondale, New York, to take on the St. Francis Prep Terriers (1-2) at 3 p.m. For directions to Mitchell Field,
