Dave Anderson '47 Honored at Golf Outing

More than 90 golfers came out to play on Tuesday, June 16, at the 31st Annual Xavier Golf Outing presented by Paul J. Scariano, Inc. The event was held at the Knickerbocker Country Club (KCC) in Tenafly, N.J. This beautiful course and clubhouse served as the perfect backdrop as Xavier honored one of KCC’s most esteemed members, Xavier alumnus Dave Anderson ’47, with the Rev. William J. McGowan, S.J. Spirit Award for his Pulitzer Prize-winning work as a sportswriter and journalist for The New York Times.

Previous winners of the McGowan Spirit Award include the the 1993 national championship rugby team, head basketball coach and CHSAA Hall of Famer Joe McGrane, head football coach Christopher Stevens ’83, former longtime head rugby coach Mike Tolkin '85 and the 1985 national championship rugby team, and Xavier’s two 1,000-point scores on the hardwood, Edward P. Gooding ’78 and Kevin P. Crockett ’14.

Despite a little bit of rain, the celebration and joy for Xavier was felt by all those in attendance. The success of this event was due to the generous support of Xavier’s benefactors, alumni, faculty and staff, friends and family, and in particular, all of our sponsors for the event.
