Jesuit Profiles: Fr. Matteo Ricci, S.J.
This week, our series about influential Jesuit saints, prophets, and witnesses returns to the Xavier E-News. Drawn from the book All Saints: Daily Reflections on Saints, Prophets, and Witnesses for Our Time, each story in the monthly series delves into the life and experiences of a carefully selected Jesuit. This month, we study the legacy of Matteo Ricci, an extraordinary figure in the history of the Christian mission.
Born in Italy in 1552, Fr. Ricci became a missionary to China. He was one of the first Westerners to win entry to the country, later mastering the Chinese language and Confucian literary classics. To read more about Ricci's life and work, click here.
