Spring Musical Draws Record Crowds

The Xavier Dramatics Society’s spring production of The Music Man drew record crowds to shows at Xavier on March 27, 28, and 29. The classic, Tony Award-winning musical, which follows con man Harold Hill during his exploits in Iowa, starred Xavier students and their female counterparts from Notre Dame School, Dominican Academy, Saint Vincent Ferrer High School, and Our Lady of Pompeii School.

“Everyone knows the music from this show,” said drama teacher Nicole DiMarco, who directed the musical. “I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.”

Led by Harrison O’Callaghan ’17 as Harold Hill, the 37-member cast was shepherded by Ms. DiMarco, assistant director Lisa Hickman, music director Steve Smith, choreographer Katie Proulx, and producer Martin Lopez. It was the final spring musical for Xavier actors Chris Coughlin ’15, Taylor Ene ’15, Nick Gangone ’15, and Matt Romero ’15 and stage crew members Javier Echevarria ’15, Justin Gonzalez ’15, and Patrick O’Beirne ’15.

Ms. DiMarco said she is already looking forward to next year’s musical, which will likely be staged in the new multi-purpose space in Fernandez-Duminuco Hall, Xavier’s 33,000-sq. ft. addition on 15th Street. Until then, the Dramatics Society is focused on preparing for its fall show.
