Rifle Team Wins 2nd Brigade Air Rifle Competition

For the first time in recent memory, the Xavier Rifle Team won first-place team honors at the 2015 2nd Brigade Air Rifle Competition. Fifteen schools, including 30 teams and 120 shooters, competed.

In addition to the team victory, four individual shooters placed in the top 10. Paul Gargiulo '16 earned a second-place finish, Marc Suda '16 came in fourth, team captain Justin Gonzalez '15 came in eighth, and James Cahill '16 finished in ninth place. Gargiulo also won a first-place trophy in the standing position.

“A special mention goes to Cesar Torres ’18 for his 20th-place finish, simply unheard of for a freshman shooter,” said Master Sgt. Clifford Stein (USA, Ret.), who oversees the Rifle Team. “All Xavier shooters distinguished themselves in an outstanding manner.”

As one of the top 15 teams in the region, Xavier then qualified for the 2015 JROTC Service Regional Championships in Port Clinton, Ohio, from February 13-15. Master Sgt. Stein noted that Suda shot a 274 out of a possible 300 while there, an incredible accomplishment.

Congratulations, Xavier Rifle Team!
