877 Alumni Celebrate Beefsteak 2015

An all-time record number of alumni returned to 16th Street last Friday, January 16, for a beloved annual tradition—the Xavier Beefsteak Dinner

Eight hundred and seventy-seven Sons of Xavier (nearly 100 more than the previous Beefsteak record, set last year) packed Larkin Hall and the gym, feasting on unlimited beef and spirits. Alumni in attendance represented nearly every Xavier class from 1939 through 2011.

“It was really amazing to see generations of alumni sharing unique stories that were unified by the mission and passion for what we do here on 16th Street,” said Mr. James Cappabianca ’05, Director of Alumni Relations.

The night began in the Jesuit Library, where nearly 100 alumni attended a mass in memory of former faculty member Mr. Tom Baker. Rev. Jack Replogle, SJ ’51, Assistant to the President and Alumni Chaplain, presided. After mass, alumni flooded down to Larkin Hall and the gym in waves, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, reunions with friends and former faculty, and of course, great steak from Nightingale Caterers. Mr. Frank Gregory P '80, '86, '87, one of Xavier’s most revered former faculty members, led alumni in a rousing rendition of “Sons of Xavier,” adding a moving historical touch to the event.

“The family reunion atmosphere at the Beefsteak Dinner every year is uniquely Xavier,” Mr. Cappabianca said. “It truly shows how Xavier has impacted alumni throughout many generations.”
