New to Xavier, American Sign Language Club Offers Fresh Perspectives
One of the newest and most exciting clubs to hit the halls of Xavier High School this year has been the American Sign Language (ASL) Club. The ASL Club was formed by a group of faculty and students who were motivated to spread awareness of ASL and inspire more to engage with sign language. Together, over twenty faculty and students have been meeting on a weekly basis throughout the year during Xavier’s new community period.
Though the club is still young, it has proved to be quite a hit among those in the Xavier community. Michael Chen ’15, who joined the club at its outset, values its presence at Xavier. “I initially joined the ASL Club to better relate to one of my childhood friends who is deaf. I always wanted to learn ASL but could never find the time. I’ve learned a lot already and can’t wait to learn more.” As the year goes on, the group will continue to explore the language spoken by thousands across the English-speaking world.
All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join, so stay tuned for the next meeting!
