Art Cashin '59, Xavier Hall of Famer & Financial Analyst, Recognized for 50 Years as a Member of the New York Stock Exchange
Mr. Art Cashin ’59, in his caption for Xavier’s Evening Parade, the precursor to Xavier’s present day yearbook, said with jest that he “models himself after Alexander the Great,” one of the foremost kings in antiquity. In his career on the New York Stock Exchange, Art Cashin ’59 may not have founded any cities or conducted any unprecedented military campaigns, but he nevertheless created for himself a legendary career in his own right.
Since becoming a member of the NYSE at the youthful age of 23, Mr. Cashin has become one of the most widely respected and knowledgeable financial analysts on Wall Street, and is currently a governor within the NYSE. He has also lived a life of service and gratitude, as would be expected of any “Son of Xavier,” spearheading the creation of the Exchange Christmas Dinner Fund in 1982 and regaling Wall Street with his annual Christmas poems of legend. Mr. Cashin was inducted into the Xavier Hall of Fame in 2010.
On December 30, 2014, Mr. Cashin celebrated his 50th year on the NYSE by ringing the opening bell for trading that day. He was profiled and interviewed by CNBC, for which he is a frequent contributor, as well as other news outlets for this occasion. Please follow through the link for this great profile, as well as for a few videos that highlight Mr. Cashin, his work, and his astute analyses throughout the years.
Xavier would like to extend a hearty congratulations to Mr. Art Cashin ’59 for his tremendous work and for representing Xavier High School proudly, and we would also like to wish him the best of luck for many more years as a member of the New York Stock Exchange!
