Tournament Information:

The McGuire Classic, a New York versus North Carolina Catholic High School Basketball tournament, is a four-team invitational honoring the 50th anniversary of Al McGuire’s final year of coaching at Belmont Abbey College. Al McGuire was a legendary coach and broadcaster who helped build college basketball into the major national sport that it is today.

Al McGuire brought his New York style to North Carolina in the early 1960’s and quickly put Belmont Abbey on the college basketball map. This tournament highlights the historical connection between North Carolina and New York City basketball; it will be the very first time that Catholic High Schools from North Carolina and New York City go up against each other on the hardwood.

The McGuire Classic will have the attention of the Charlotte sports media without competition from the many post-Christmas tournaments in the area.

4. Charlotte Catholic High School (host school)

Games will be played at the Wheeler Athletic Center at Belmont Abbey College, with the North Carolina and New York City schools alternating play each day of the Invitational:
