Xavier in Washington, D.C.: Over 60 Alumni and Friends – Including 20 College Students – Support Xavier on the Road in our Nation’s Capital
Last week, Xavier’s fall reception series was on the road in Washington, D.C for Xavier’s annual reception and college tours. For many Xavier alumni, family members and friends, it was a chance to experience the great energy and excitement many continue to have for Xavier High School. Hosted by alumnus MAJ Francis H. Dong’ 67 at the Army and Navy Club of Washington, D.C., the event boasted 60 attendees, including several members of Xavier’s most recent graduating class. Lt. Col. Roy Campbell, faculty member and Senior Army Instructor at Xavier, noted fervently in his remarks at the Army and Navy Club, “The future looks bright for Xavier – the generations I see here, members of the class of 1950, the class of 2014 and all in between – are a testament to a most hopeful future on 16th Street. Xavier produces men of a certain character and that character is clearly lived out among all those present here.”
Xavier was well represented this past week in Washington, D.C. – lunch and dinner with numerous young alumni at Loyola University Maryland, American University, Catholic University and Georgetown University, and over 60 alumni and friends in attendance at the Army and Navy Club. Xavier President Jack Raslowsky affirmed, “The energy and spirit for Xavier is something special, and as I reflect on the conversations I had in this room tonight, Xavier’s community of alumni and friends is healthy and only getting stronger.”
Xavier’s Washington, D.C. edition of the "college tour," spearheaded by Mr. Shane Lavin '03, former Director of Alumni Relations and current Director of Annual Giving, took Mr. James R. Cappabianca ’05 to the campuses of Loyola University Maryland, American University, Catholic University and Georgetown University. Mr. Cappabianca had the opportunity to catch up on the great things happening with those students currently attending college in and around the D.C. area. More importantly, these visits gave Xavier the opportunity to offer exiting updates to recent graduates and provided some time to share new experiences (including full tours of each campus) while reflecting on how Xavier impacted the lives of these young alumni. During Xavier’s visit, Christopher Cole ‘14, current freshman at Georgetown McDonough School of Business, said, “It’s great to see Xavier taking the time to stay involved and in touch with our lives beyond the hallways of Xavier. Xavier prepared me well for life here at G-town and I wouldn’t be where I am, both academically and co-curricularly, without my years spent on 16th Street."
The enthusiasm for this year’s Washington, D.C reception was truly remarkable, and Xavier is grateful for all those who supported the events last weekend, and for all those who continue to support the work done at Xavier.
