Seven Seniors Recognized for PSAT Performance
On Wednesday October 8, the Xavier community gathered to recognize the accomplishments of the student body during the Xavier fall Honors Assembly. Several weeks ago, we wrote about some of the students that were honored during this event. Recently, seven seniors were recognized by the College Board, an educational organization that administers the SAT exam, for their accomplishments on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT). The PSAT is taken by over 1.5 million students nationwide each year.
Brandon Efap ’15 and Joseph Onah ’15 were named “Outstanding Participants” by College Board. This award is given to students that score in the top three percent of all African-Americans that took the PSAT this past year and requested consideration in the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Kevin Ko ’15, Raymond Kong ’15, Kevin Marks ’15, and Vincent Tozzi ’15 each received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their scores on the 2013 PSAT. Kevin, Raymond, Kevin, and Vincent scored in the top three percent of all students that took the PSAT. This honor is given to those “in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.”
James McLaughlin ’15 was named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist. James scored among the top 16,000 students nationwide. He will wait until February to see if he will move to the next round of consideration as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. If James is named a recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, he will be one of 7,600 other students nationwide who win this award.
Congratulations to all!
