President's Council Dinner 2014: A Night of Gratitude

By James R. Cappabianca '05

The generosity shown from supporters – parents, friends and alumni alike – of the great things done here at Xavier High School was graciously recognized on October 9 at Xavier’s 32nd annual President’s Council Dinner, held at the New York Athletic Club. The President’s Council Dinner is a night that celebrates those who represent Xavier’s highest level of donor contribution, and about 200 alumni, parents, supporters and guests attended the event, along with members of Xavier’s faculty and administration.

This past year was a record year for Xavier, due in large part to those who gave at the President’s Council level. Xavier raised more than $5.9 million in total giving, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of alumni, parents and friends. The Annual Fund exceeded its goal by more than five percent bringing in $2.279 million. Alumni gave to the Annual Fund with great generosity, contributing more than $1.785 million to support operations, athletics, arts and classroom instruction among countless other aspects of life at Xavier. Graduate parents and friends supported the Annual Fund at an unprecedented level, contributing nearly $250,000 to support operations, athletics, arts and classroom instruction, among countless other aspects of life at Xavier. Lastly, alumni, parents and friends attended more than 40 events and receptions across the country proving that the Xavier community is strong both near and far. The President’s Council Dinner on October 9 was a way to celebrate the overwhelming generosity of those who help sustain and make possible the mission of Xavier High School.

After reflecting on the event, Mr. Mark Mongelluzzo, Director of Development, noted, “This year’s President’s Council Dinner was one of the most enjoyable ‘PC’ dinners yet. There was a very palpable energy in the room that lifted spirits. A lovely invocation from Fr. Charles ‘Chuck’ Frederico, S.J., Tri-Province Vocations Director, poignant, personal and heartfelt remarks from Xavier’s President, Mr. Jack Raslowsky, and a rousing rendition of ‘Sons of Xavier’ summed up a near-perfect evening.” This sentiment was surely felt by many; generosity abounds and the support of Xavier and all that is done on 16th Street has never been stronger.
