Meet the New Faculty and Staff
Xavier is happy to welcome a terrific class of new faculty and staff to the community. Several teachers will be serving as leave replacements for faculty on maternity leave for part or all of the year. The new faculty and staff bring both excellent training and a wealth of experience to 16th Street.
Mr. José Aquino ’07 served as a leave replacement last year and joins the faculty full-time this year teaching Religion and Spanish. Mr. Aquino received both a B.A. and an M.A. in Theology from St. John’s University.
Ms. Alexandra Bushery joins the admissions staff as an admissions counselor. Ms. Bushery holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in food and nutrition from Framingham State University. She comes to Xavier from the Cornelia Connelly Center, an all-girls Nativity-model middle school on the Lower East Side where she served as a counselor.
Fr. James Donovan, S.J. holds a B.A. in Biology from Le Moyne College, an M.S.Ed from Fordham University, a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration from Hofstra University, and a Master of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. As a veteran teacher of twenty years, Fr. Donovan has taught at St. Francis Preparatory School, Christ the King High School, Garden City High School and Regis High School. Ordained in 2013, Fr. Donovan served on the pastoral staff of St. Anthony’s Parish in Oceanside during the 2013-2014 school year.
Mr. Jozeph Herceg will join the English department as a leave replacement. Mr. Herceg holds a B.A. in English Literature from Fordham University and an M.A. in English Literature from Brooklyn College. Prior to coming to Xavier, Mr. Herceg worked in the Excel program of BronxWorks helping students prepare for their GED.
Mr. Christopher Maddalone ’80 holds a B.A. in history from Boston College, and an M.S.Ed. in science education from Long Island University. Mr. Maddalone came to education after several years in the business world and worked in the NYC public schools. He joins the Science and Technology department.
Mr. William Maloney ’01 joins the admissions staff as the associate director of admissions. Mr. Maloney is a graduate of Canisius College. He has coached at Xavier the last several years and is coaching freshman football this season. Mr. Maloney has also taught in Xavier's Jesuit Higher Achievement Program.
Mrs. Katherine McCabe joined the headmaster's office staff as assistant to the headmaster in July. Mrs. McCabe holds a B.A. in English from Spring Hill College, an M.S. in literature from the University of Edinburgh and an M.A. in teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education. Prior to coming to Xavier, she taught 6th grade writing and was the ELA department head at the Bronx Academy of Letters.
Dr. Salvatore Napolitano holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from the University of Naples and the
Université de Paris-Sorbonne, an M.A. with distinction in Cultural studies from the school of Business Administration in Salerno, Italy and the Archaeological School of Athens in Greece. He also holds a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Naples and a diploma of composition and history of music from the
Conservatorio di Musica San Pietro a Majella in Naples, Italy. Dr. Napolitano has taught at several universities in the United States including NYU, UCLA and the California Institute of Technology. He has also taught on the secondary level at the Classical High School of Rome. Dr. Napolitano joins the Modern Language department as a leave replacement.
Ms. Alexis Walker joins the faculty of the English Department as a leave replacement. Ms. Walker holds a B.A. in Literature from Yale University, and an M.A. and M.Phil. from Columbia University. Ms. Walker has taught at Marymount Manhattan College and comes to Xavier with 18 years of teaching experience.
Ms. Mary Anne Woody holds a B.S. in Biophysics from the University of Scranton and a M.Ed. from Columbia University in Physics education. Ms. Woody has worked at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, The Bronx School of Young Leaders and at Hearing Education Services. She joins the Science and Technology Department.
