You are cordially invited to participate in the 5th Annual
Friends of the Jesuits Golf Outing to be held at the prestigious Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, NY on Monday, September 29, 2014 to benefit the Jesuits of the New York Province. More than $960,000 has been raised through the previous four outings and has benefited those served by various Jesuit ministries - especially those that benefit the poor and disadvantaged. Assistance has been provided to parishes, the retreat ministry, schools, social ministries and our missions overseas. Funds raised also helped in the care and support for senior and infirm Jesuits. Necessary renovations are proceeding in earnest at Murray-Weigel Hall, the Jesuit health care community.
Jesuits carry out so many ministries in the Church today – wherever the need is greatest. They are serving the people of Harlem, the Bronx, Buffalo and Brooklyn by opening schools like Nativity and Cristo Rey. They offer the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and administer six parishes in New York State. They support colleges and universities and support the local churches in Africa and Micronesia. They initiate new ministries in social justice and stand ready to accept new challenges to support the growing Church in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
The founder of the Society, St. Ignatius Loyola, made it clear that Jesuits would have to beg when necessity required. It is especially true that without the humility to ask their friends for help, several Jesuit ministries will be forced to eliminate programs and others will slowly cease to be. We turn to you for your support on their behalf. We have planned a great day with many opportunities for participation. The enclosed form provides more details.
