Ignatian Solidarity Network Pushes for Immigration Reform
The Ignatian Solidarity Network, a social justice network that embraces the tenets of Ignatian spirituality, is pushing for immigration reform in America. It has been gathering signatories for a letter to be sent to alumni of Jesuit institutions currently serving in the House of Representatives. The ISN hopes to persuade the representatives to support reform that protects the vulnerable, supports undocumented young people and provides pathways to citizenship for the over 11 million undocumented people living in America.
The ISN’s approach to calling for immigration reform is multi-faceted, involving prayers and reflection on the issue, education at parishes, town halls and schools, and advocating through media and political representatives. The letter the ISN has prepared, which it hopes to gather over 1,000 signatories for, is just one part of the reform effort. “A humane immigration reform policy would respond to the urgent needs of the most vulnerable in our society, the 11 million undocumented individuals currently living and working in the shadows of our communities,” the letter reads. “Likewise, immigration reform has the power to serve all U.S. citizens by growing our economy, strengthening our communities, and increasing safety and accountability at our borders.”
