Track Takes on Eastern State Championship

Many varsity Xavier runners took to Iona High School this Saturday to compete in the Eastern State Championship. While many young Knights will travel to Syracuse this Saturday for the New York State Championship, Eastern States was the final meet of the season for most Xavier runners, and the team certainly made the most of it.

One of the most impressive races of the day was Xavier’s first place finish in the 4x1600-meter relay. A team of John Rice ’15, Jordan Berka ’14, Giancarlo Cipri ’17 and Louis Vazquez ‘15 ran a combined time of 18:33.27 for the gold. Relay teams also netted first place in the 4x200 and 4x400-meter races – Oliver Moe ’15, Stephen Sgarlato ’15, Sam Santos-Shevett ’15 and Charlie Lambert ’15 came in at 1:31.01 in the former, while Andrew Kiarie-Mumbi ’16, Oliver Moe, Stephen Sgarlato and Frank Clarke ’15 finished in 3:24.47 in the latter. Four Xavier runners took second place in the 4x800-meter relay run but at the same time set the all-time Xavier record for the event - Garrison Schwer '15, Dominick Ronan '16, Christian Raslowsky '16 and Eliot Kaufmann '14.

Adding to his part in the 4x400’s victory, Charlie Lambert took first in the long jump with an exceptional 21’6” jump, just barely edging out a Mount St. Michael’s jumper by an inch for the win.

Some members of the team will close out the season at the State Championship this weekend - good luck! To browse pictures of last week's CHSAA State Championships (May 24), see our Flickr page.

Lacrosse Players Awarded at CHSAA Dinners

This week lacrosse players Luc Mitchell '15 and Brian Drennan '16 won awards for their excellent play in the 2014 lacrosse season at the CHSAA Lacrosee dinner. Mitchell made second team all-league as a midfielder, while sophomore Drennan made first team all-league as attack. Both were joined at the dinner by Head Coach Pat Drennan. The two players have recently been elected co-captains for the 2015 season by their teammates, and the team looks with anticipation to the future.
