Xavier Places Second at Jesuit Championships
Saturday saw records fall and Xavier runners reach the podium as the track team competed in the annual Jesuit Championships at Icahn Stadium. The meet saw the Knights take on rivals Fordham, in addition to Cristo Rey, Loyola, Regis and St. Peter’s Prep (NJ). Xavier was edged out by Fordham for first place, but the team’s second place finish was marked by several history-making moments for the 16th Street runners.
Eliot Kaufmann ’14 and
John Rice ’15 both made history by running under 4:20 in the mile – the first time any Xavier runner had ever done that, let alone in the same race. Rice’s 4:17 edged out Kaufmann’s 4:19, but both made the medal stand as the former took gold and the latter bronze. Their performances were matched by several other great runs on the day.
Frank Clarke ’15 took home silver in the 400-meter dash with a 52.09, good enough for ninth all-time in the Xavier record books. Clarke took another record-book ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.30, while
Christian Raslowsky ’16 ran the fifth-best Xavier sophomore time in the mile run with a time of 4:37.77.
On the field side of the events, two Xavier juniors netted the team big points with their jumps.
Callahan Ciriacks ’15 soared for a 5’10” jump in the high jump, getting him first place in the event and fifth in the Xavier varsity record book.
Charlie Lambert '15 took first in the long jump with a 20’11.5”, and then added to that with a first place finish in the 100-meter dash, running a time that also landed him third all-time in Xavier history, 11.15.
The team is literally all over the place this Saturday – some runners take on the Loucks Games at White Plains High School, some travel to the North Shore High School Invitational, while others still will be competing at Freshman/Sophomore Intersectionals at Farrell – good luck, team!
