Alums Return to Xavier for Reunion 2014
Throngs of Xavier alums gathered on 16th Street this past weekend to rekindle old connections, share stories and remember the place that brought them all together. Sons of Xavier whose class year ended in 4 or 9 (and quite a few Golden Knights) visited Xavier for Reunion, a weekend dedicated to honoring and renewing the bonds that formed between men of Xavier High School. This year also marked the Class of 1964's
50th anniversary.
Over 350 alumni attended the weekend's festivities. "It's always a delight to see classes reunite in a place that meant so much to their formation," said
Director of Alumni Relations Shane Lavin '03. "No matter if the class graduated in the 40's or the 90's, the experience is much the same."
"Reunion is always a great reminder that the story of Xavier High School continues to be written in the story of our alumni through the
years," said
President Jack Raslowsky. "Through their lives as husbands, fathers, priests, deacons and friends, through the values they live and give witness to and through what they learned at Xavier and carry with them through the years."
Reunion opened on Saturday with tours of the school by student volunteers, and masses in the Church of St. Francis Xavier and the Student Chapel in memory of classmates who have passed away. Classmates then gathered at year-specific receptions at different locations in the school before convening in the gym for a joy-filled dinner. "Reunion is a hallmark of the year," said Mr. Lavin. "It is a reminder to many of the wonderful education for both school and life they received, as well as of the bonds of friendship made so many years ago that continue today."
