Tuesday marked the annual Block X Award ceremony, when the school faculty and administration honor individual students for standout achievements while here at Xavier. The trophies awarded are a hallmark of the 2L corridor, where they are displayed year-round except for the day of the Block X ceremony.

This year's awards paid tribute not only to individual students, but to two athletic teams whose 2013-2014 seasons were exceptional - the varsity basketball and hockey teams. Both capped successful seasons with championship wins in their divisions. 

While the Block X awards are given to notable members of a large range of students groups, activities and athletic teams, some are designated for truly standout members of the community, such as the Gerard J. Werckle Award, given to a students whose life emulates the faith, dedication and service of the man it was named for, and the Bernard M. Moynihan Award, given to a student whose dedication to both athletics and scholastics is top-notch.

"While today we celebrate individuals and teams, we also celebrate teachers teaching, coaches coaching, teammates and parents who support one another," said President Jack Raslowsky. "Today is a celebration of individual achievement, but it remains a day of celebrating the community, the spirit that makes those achievements possible."
