The Restoration of the Society of Jesus - John Padberg, S.J. and Robert E. Scully, S.J.
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the
restoration of the Society of Jesus. The Society was suppressed by Pope Clement XIV in July 1773, only to be restored 41 years later in 1814 by Pope Pius VII. The Society is commemorating the year with celebration, education efforts and reflection.
John Padberg, S.J. of Loyola University Chicago recently presented a colloquium on the suppression and restoration of the Society of Jesus on the restoration's 200th anniversary.
E-News has shared his lectures for several weeks now, and this week marks the final installment of this feature -
here is part seven, and when you're done, click through for
the final video, part eight. To see past videos, simply browse the Jesuit Restoration Conference's YouTube channel.
Additionally, Robert E. Scully, S.J. recently published a summative paper on the suppression, "The Suppression of The Society of Jesus: A Perfect Storm in the Age of The 'Enlightenment'," which
you can read here.
