Outdoor Track Busy over Break

There was no rest for members of the outdoor track team over the spring break, as runners traveled to as many as four different meets to whittle down their times and prepare for the end-of-the-season meets coming up in the next month. Some of the runners took on the New York Relays at Randall's Island and Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania, while others went to the Iona Prep Meet, a Dual Meet with Fordham and CHSAA Novice & Junior Weight Champs.

Twelve runners competed in the prestigious Penn Relays, and though Xavier didn't come back to New York with any medals, its runners did break some records. Andrew Kiarie-Mumbi '16, Charlie Lambert '15, Stephen Sgarlato '15 and Frank Clarke '15 took the fourth all-time Xavier record in the 4x400 meter relay, while Dominick Ronan '16, John Rice '15, Eliot Kaufmann '14 and Jordan Berka '14 did the same in the 4x800. The team saw some great individual times at the Iona Prep Meet, including first place medals by Christian Raslowsky '16 in the 800m run, Donovan Shanks '17 in the freshman shot put, Stephanos Cocoves '16 in the varsity high jump and Matthew Baker '16 in the varsity triple jump. The team will run at the Jesuit Championships this Saturday at Randall's Island's Icahn Stadium - come out and support the Knights!

Xavier RFC Has Successful UK Tour

Members of the varsity rugby team recently flew over the Atlantic and toured both Scotland and England, playing competitive rugby, learning about different cultures and expanding their horizons. The A side defeated Boroughmuir RFC 17-7 and Chester RUFC 24-19 while falling to Gosforth Academy in their last game 12-22. The B side also went 2-1 on the trip, beating Lasswade RFC 30-5 and Kenton School 24-7 but were edged out by Caldy RUFC 15-26.

Tennis Looking for a Team Win, Sees Individual Success

The tennis team is halfway into its season and is still looking for a team win, but has seen some very outstanding individual performances. “Peter McKee ‘16, Vin Tozzi ‘15, and Gianluca Milea ‘15 have all played terrific matches as our top three singles players,” said Coach Mike Mule '04, “and they're joined this year by senior veterans Nikhil Chothani ‘14 and Alberto Ciaraldi ‘14, returning sophomore Andrew Arabian ‘16, and three new team members.” The team has played all of its games this season without a home field, but there’s much hope as they take on the second half of the spring. Coach Mule said, “Team chemistry continues to grow. The team is making a strong impression in all of its matches, drawing praise from opposing coaches. The wins cannot be far behind as the team heads into second matches against its competitors.”
